Our weekly infographic connected the dots of Habitat for Humanity International's mission and purpose. Habitat's model has actually been imitated by other organizations like the St. Bernard Project that aimed to help in the reconstruction efforts after Hurricane Katrina.

Local news coverage of increased Food Bank use in Canada has been picking up. More accute issues of food insecurity are being reported in places like P.E.I. where 15.4% of working people struggle to put food on the table. Surprisingly, 80% of food insecure people in the province are employed. You can read more here.

In research, a new report was put out by our friends at FEANTSA on homelessness across Europe. It takes a look at how heavy handed policing and heavy administrative penalties have exacerbated the problem of homelessness across the continent.

If you are in Hamilton on Tuesday November 12th you are more than welcome to attend and participate at the Standing Beside Women discussion and workshop hosted by the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton at the Good Shepherd Housing Services. This Thursday, November 14th in Toronto join Dr. Vicky Stergiopoulos, Dr. Stephen Hwang, and Dr. Pat O'Campo from St. Michael's Hospital's Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute as they discuss some of the latest findings from the At Home/Chez Soi study. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Housing First as an evidence-based approach in helping people who face homelessness and mental illness. The event runs from 1:30PM to 4:30PM at 209 Victoria Street. You can register online here.

There will also be another Toronto event on the results from the At Home/Chez Soi study on Friday November 29th. Hosted by the Centre for Research on Inner City Health, this full day seminar will be at the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse. Registration closes this Friday so make sure to sign up here!
