Technology, with all its rapid growth and innovation, has long been considered an indicator of status. In March 2014, amidst mounting pressure from homeless advocates, Facebook removed a controversial group, called Creature Sightings, from their website. Consisting of more than 200 members, this online site was used as a forum to embarrass and degrade homeless individuals. Photographs were posted by group users, showing homeless individuals who appeared to be under the influence of substances and/or unconscious in public places.
