In 1996, a collaborative partnership was developed between the Royal Children's Hospital Integrated Mental Health Program (RCH IMHP), and Melton Community Health Centre (MCHC) developing an innovative group work program for children aged between eight and twelve years, and their mothers (or carers) who have witnessed or experienced family violence. This group is called 'parkas' (Parents Accepting Responsibility Kids Are Safe).
