City of Greater Sudbury - Report Card on Homelessness 2008

For many people living in Sudbury, finding and maintaining housing is a constant struggle.

Greater Sudbury offers emergency shelters for homeless people through programs run by the Salvation Army and L'Association des jeunes de la rue.

- 492 women and children accessed an emergency shelter in 2008. 14% had to use the shelter more than once.

- 134 men accessed an emergency shelter in 2008. 19% had to use the shelter more than once.

- 240 youth between the ages of 16 and 23 accessed an emergency shelter in 2008. The two main reasons given for youth having to access a shelter was family/relationship breakdown and housing eviction by family or friends
