Evidence-based Practice for Justice-involved Individuals

This paper presents an overview of housing models used for persons with mental illness who have had contact with the criminal justice system. Our intent is to synthesize available knowledge regarding evidence-based programming when providing housing for this population. While many programs exist and are currently being developed to serve this population, there is little evaluation research from which to draw conclusions about what works. Hence, we focus on extracting the best practices across the various literatures-- homeless assistance, mental health and criminal justice-- that inform housing program for persons with mental illness who have had contact with the justice system. In addition, we seek to develop a sound framework from which to draw conclusions about key components of promising programs and that future studies can utilize to measure outcomes. (Authors)
