Families under pressure: Preventing Family Breakdown & Youth Homelessness

This new research from Centrepoint, a UK based research group, examines why some families experience relationship breakdown to such an extent that a young person faces homelessness.

The research explores the key causes of relationship breakdown according to homeless young people and the practitioners who support them. Relationship breakdown is the most common reason why young people become homeless. 59 per cent of the young people who come to Centrepoint had to leave home for this reason.

Young people and practitioners say that the key factors which lead to family breakdown include structural factors, interpersonal factors and individual factors, all of which are laid out in the report.
