There is a TV in the living room, food in the kitchen and a laundry room downstairs, but Homebase is no ordinary home. Set back from Yonge Street, north of Elgin Mills Road, the house is where troubled youths can go when they need a place to be safe or to start again. “We’re part of the community, not a Lego piece, clicked into the middle of it,” says Pathways director of fund development Stephen Lollar. Homelessness, youth at risk and related issues may fly under the radar for suburbanites, but they are increasingly parts of our societal reality.
