Homeless Parents and Their Children: From Isolation to Support

This study answers a call by the city do a pre-pilot study of homeless parents and their children who stay in motels along Gorge Road and to do so using a direct service approach to gather data on these families, the services they access and need, and gaps in such services; and to connect parents and their children who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and help them find solutions for their immediate needs and to access existing community supports.Further, the project develops a framework from which to understand the needs of homeless parents and their children and the services they use, attempts to meet the short-term needs of homeless parents and their children, and to document the situations facing homeless parents and their children, the services they use, and describe the gaps in service they encounter. The project featured four outreach workers, each of whom worked 17.5 hours per week.
