Homelessness Snapshot 2004: New Understanding, New Responses

The reasons young people leave home are complex and include family conflict, physical and/or sexual abuse, substance abuse and trauma. This has been described as young people ‘running from’ family or personal problems. This snapshot examines what is meant by homelessness and provides an overview of who is homeless in Australia. It also identifies the main risk factors which contribute to homelessness and looks at new approaches to reducing the numbers of homeless people.
