Apartment vacancy rates provide an excellent indication of the availability of rental housing supply. A clear downward trend in the availability of rental housing has been observed in Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation published statistics. Changes in Provincial policy and legislation since 1995 has done little to encourage rental housing production.
