Review of Invisible Nation: Homeless Families in America

Invisible Nation, written by Richard Schweid, draws attention to homelessness in America. Schweid was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and since then has lived in Boston, Massachusetts; Fairfax, Virginia; Portland, Oregon; and Trenton, New Jersey. While living in each city, Schweid interviewed homeless families and agencies that helped those in need. He made it his mission to connect with individuals on a personal level. Each year, families are forced to live on the streets, in their cars, in overpacked shelters, and in rundown motel rooms. When families are homeless, things are constantly changing, which causes health and safety to be jeopardized. Invisible Nation is a must read for people who want a better understanding of what homelessness looks like today in the United States.
