People who borrow and lend drug injection equipment, including needles, are at risk of getting and passing on hepatitis C and HIV. However, there are people who have been injecting drugs for a long time who have managed to “stay safe” from hepatitis C or HIV. What have these people done to avoid infection for so long? The Staying Safe project sought to examine the strategies that these people have used to stay free of hepatitis C and HIV. Sharing these strategies may help others also “stay safe.”
