Connection to Community

In order to prevent isolation it is important that individuals and families are connected to their community and their neighbourhood, particularly if obtaining housing has meant relocation. The opportunity to engage with chosen communities including cultural connections, or individuals and institutions in their local neighbourhood, is important. This can include volunteer opportunities, access to community recreation centres and services, replacing existing service providers with new ones in their new community and finding new activities to replace old habits. Volunteering in particular can provide an opportunity to learn about giving back and personal fulfillment. It can also improve social and job skills for someone who is seeking employment.
