Empowerment Evaluation is the application of evaluation techniques in facilitating self-determination. Defined as ‘having the ability to charter one’s own life’, self-determination is the theoretical foundation of empowerment evaluation. This method of evaluation can be used as part of a training program, both to help individuals become more self-sufficient and to assist organizations internalize their evaluation practices. This evaluation technique is highly sensitive to the life cycle of the program and organization. The process of empowerment evaluation has the potential to be both illuminating and liberating by helping organizations to take charge of their own lives.
