Every year 12,000 teenagers aged 16 and 17 ask their local council for help as they face the stark reality of homelessness.
Evidence from a new report by The Children’s Society highlights how only 1 in 12 of them get help they need from their local authority – the rest receive a response that falls short.
The report indicates that 16 and 17-year-olds are being put at risk by councils that are not properly assessing or housing these young people.
