Chatham-Kent Housing & Homelessness 2014 Progress Report

This report outlines the progress CK has made in striving to end homelessness in 2014.

Our most notable acheivements include:

  • A Housing and Homelessness Steering Committee was established, comprised of 13 community partners and agencies that have a vested interest in helping to end homelessness in Chatham-Kent. Moving forward, this committee will work together to prioritize and carry out the key recommendations outlined in the CK Homelessness Plan.
  • The Chatham-Kent Shelter Solutions Program, which provides prevention services and supports to individuals and families at imminent risk of homelessness, assisted 1762 households maintain or retain accommodations.
  • $984,983 was invested through the Ontario Renovates program for 49 families and 4 affordable rental units. 
  • 27 low-income families were provided assistance with down-payments on an affordable and sustainable home.
  • 40 low-income households were assisted with rent paymentstowards an affordable and sustainable home.
  • 21 Short-Term Housing Allowances were issued, that enabled families to maintain and stabilize affordable housing during a temporary crisis period.
  • The Homeless Response Line was implemented, providing people facing homeless crisis situations “after-hours” access to immediate emergency shelter, as well as,  supports and services for help in finding stable long-term housing.
  • A Community Relations Worker position was developed and initiated working with residents of social housing in Wallaceburg to ensure that they are aware of the resources and supports available in the community and to assist with housing retention.
  • 16 community agencies received funding through the Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative for programming and services to assist people who are homeless or facing a shelter crisi
  • 21 individuals were assisted with HomeMaker supports and services so they could remain in their homes.
