Homelessness in America’s Cities: Ten Case Studies

This report presents the findings of 10 case studies concerning the conditions relating to homelessness; local efforts being made to respond to the problems; and the degree to which those efforts are meeting the needs of the homeless population. The ten cities included in the report are: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Columbus, Denver, New York City, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Seattle. The case studies indicate that shelter and a variety of supportive services are generally provided for the homeless, including health and mental health care, counseling, job training and placement, and drop-in centers where showers, food, clothing, and in some cases, medical care are accessible.
