Drawing on interviews with 12 sexual and gender diverse (SGD) individuals accessing crisis intervention services, this study examines how homelessness services can be more affirming and responsive to their specific needs. The research identified and spotlighted four key themes: Housing, identity and belonging; Knowledge and resources; Safety and trust; and Gaps in affirming care. Recommendations include improving staff training, connecting clients with SGD-specific resources, increasing SGD representation among service providers, and ensuring Housing First programs consider safety in housing locations, landlord relationships and neighbourhoods.
