The Benefit Eligibility Screening Tool (BEST) helps to determine eligibility for benefits that Social Security administers. BEST is not an application for benefits, but an online tool. Social Security does not keep any record of answers.
The Benefit Eligibility Screening Tool (BEST) is hosted on Social Security Online, the Official Website of the U.S. Social Security Administration. By answering a series of questions, the eligibility for benefits that Social Security administers can be determined. The tool screens for Medicare, Social Security Disability, Social Security Retirement, Social Security Survivors, Special Veterans, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). A name and Social Security number are not required to access BEST. A date of birth (for spouse, too, if applicable), date of marriage(s), earnings information, and information about personal finances are necessary for benefits screening.
