CMHS Public Forum: Final Report to the Center for Mental Health Services

In 1993, the federal Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), asked the New York State Office of Mental Health to host a public forum for the purposes of assisting CMHS in developing a National Plan for Mental Health Services. Over 350 people from New York and other northeast states participated in the forum. This report highlights the testimony presented by invited speakers, as well as the discussion and public comment that followed the testimony. Topics covered at the forum included consumer involvement and participation in the mental health system, housing issues, cultural competence in service delivery, and the effects of national health care reform on access to mental health services (authors).
