We know that homelessness is a factor in increased healthcare costs, and this article gets into the details of exactly how much that represents in Toronto in the early 2020s. By comparing the healthcare journeys of people experiencing homelessness with two groups of housed people (one control group and one low-income group), the researchers were able to find that healthcare costs for those experiencing homelessness were six times higher, at $12,209 per year on average, than those of housed people.
