Dying With Their Rights On

The author of this editorial letter discusses the problems that arise when medical professionals take a narrow-sighted view of protecting patients civil liberties and rights, potentially at the cost of their medical condition. Three cases from Wisconsin are sighted in which individuals died soon after petitions for their commitment were denied. The author contends that while patients' rights are important, there must be a proper balance between the protection of these rights and the protection of life.
