The Lower Extremity Amputation Prevention (LEAP) Program is designed to dramatically reduce lower extremity amputations in individuals with Diabetes Melitus, Hansen's Disease, or any condition that results in loss of protective sensation in the feet. The foundation of this prevention program is a 5.07 monofilament that delivers 10 grams of force. This low cost, easy to use, screening implement can identify patients with a foot at risk of developing problems. This video covers various components of the LEAP Program including: patient education in both English and Spanish (15 minutes each), foot screening (14 minutes), foot care techniques (30 minutes), and foot wear selection (8 minutes).
