The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 requires local authorities to draw up effective strategies to tackle and prevent homelessness. As recent research suggests, repeat homelessness or the ‘revolving door’ of homelessness is also a significant problem. Tenancy breakdown and subsequent homelessness are costly, both to individuals and to housing providers. It is increasingly recognised that successful strategies for tackling and preventing homelessness must include some form of resettlement and tenancy support. One element of such support is the provision of life skills training to homeless people. This research is the first to examine the existing evidence on the role of life skills training in resettlement and tenancy sustainment. The research also sets out the range of life skills training provision in Scotland.
