Homelessness in rural and remote Canada is a hidden but serious issue, often overlooked despite its prevalence being on par with or higher than urban areas.
This research highlights unique aspects of homelessness in these communities, based on focus groups with service providers from 10 locations across Canada. Key findings reveal how social, cultural, and structural factors, along with recent challenges like COVID-19 and housing market shifts, shape homelessness in these settings.
The study emphasizes the need for tailored, community-specific strategies instead of one-size-fits-all solutions to effectively address and prevent rural and remote homelessness.
