Media reports suggest that the public is becoming impatient with people who are homeless, resulting in what's been termed compassion fatigue. This study tracks the results of public opinion polls for a random telephone survey concerning knowledge attitudes and beliefs about homeless people. Results show that the public still sees homelessness as an undesirable social problem and wants to see something done about it. Furthermore, there is little evidence to suggest that the public has lost compassion and is unwilling to support policies to help people who are homeless, as the media proclaimed.
